Weddings on a Budget

Today’s economy doesn’t mean that weddings need to be cheap and boring, it just means that couples need to be more creative with their choices. Weddings on a budget could mean a more personal, intimate affair instead of a lavish celebration. Here are a few tips to consider while planning your special day.

  • Date: Consider getting married on a Sunday or week day~You’ll definitely have more choices for dates or choose a month that isn’t in the prime wedding season such as March.
  • Cut Down: Have 2 Bridesmaids instead of 4. Trim your guest list. Don’t feel obligated to allow your single guests to bring a date and don’t feel pressured to invite coworkers. By doing this you could potentially save hundreds of dollars.
  • Catering: Consider a brunch, luncheon or an hor d’oeuvres reception.
  • Invitations: Keep them simple. Large and awkward sized invites can cost a much as $2.00 each to mail.
  • Favors: A way of thanking your guests for sharing in your special day. They should be fun and memorable. They don’t need to be expensive or extravagant. Edible favors or a charitable donation are a wonderful way of saying thank you.
  • Dress Alterations: A simple hem can cost you less than $100.00, but if your dress requires bodice work with beading detail you can expect to pay a considerable amount more. Ask the dress shop in advance the cost of alterations and if that seems out of your budget, take it to a less expensive seamstress.
  • What’s Important: Decide what aspects of your wedding mean the most to you. Photography, food, cake, decor. For example, if having an extravagant looking cake isn’t at the top of your priorities, opt for a scaled down version with cut slabs of cake in the back to be served. The money you save can be allocated to the photographer for an extra couple of hours of reception coverage. These are just a few ideas to help you get started with creating a memorable event you will cherish forever. Happy Planning!
