Wedding Trends 2008

What’s hot for the 2008 wedding season? Lots….

1. The Color PURPLE: This years color palette will showcase a variety of this hue. From royal to plum, lavender and mauve. Designers suggest mixing it with olive green, sage, emerald and latte for a bold, vibrant feel.

2. Decor: Vintage, Electric and Ethnic. The look and feel for 2008 has an Old Hollywood feel. Romance, vintage chandeliers, flowing fabrics, rhinestones, geometric shapes and shiny metallics. Look for other trends such as hand beaded fabrics, sari looks and ethnic food choices for a more diverse look.

3. Bridal Wear: In keeping with the old Hollywood feel, you can expect to see halter necklines, ruffled dresses, caplet sleeves, waves in the hair, rhinestones and dangling earings, to mention a few…

4. Eco friendly and Organic Weddings: Many couples are seeking vendors who offer environmental friendly choices from pesticide free flowers, organic menu selections, and natural fabrics and card stock choices for their stationery. Many couples are also opting to give a donation to a charity in lieu of party favors.

Although each couple has an ideas of how they for see their wedding day, you may just get a little inspiration from the above.

Something Old, Something New…

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed Something Blue….

This saying has been around since the Victorian era and is still very popular today. What does it mean?

Something Old symbolizes the stability of marriage and shows that you are not forgetting your heritage.

Something New represents new adventures you will be embarking on.

Something Borrowed refers to the love and support of your family and friends as you borrow an item from a happily married woman.

Something Blue traditionally represents love and fidelity.

This is a fun tradition to bring all the ladies in your life together and help make your special day that much more meaningful.

Let’s Talk Cake…

Each year cakes get more and more intricate, unique, and sometimes truly amazing works of art. The trends for this season are personalization, unique shapes and styles, and color!

Instead of the usual and very popular fresh flower topper, couples are opting for initial momogramming as well as personal cake toppers that reflect their style and personalities.

Unique shapes: No more traditional three-tier symetrical cakes. The new trend is odd shapes, crooked pieces and unique shapes.

Color: Not that this is new, but more couples are wanting “coordination” throughout their wedding. You’ll find colors in bright pinks, orange and various shades of green… whatever matches your color scheme.

So whether you decide on the traditional cake or something a little more creative, one thing is for sure, cakes are taking centre stage!

Floral and Decor

Kim Raddysh, owner and principle stylist of Wedding Event and Design Studios has unveiled her new 5000 sq. ft. warehouse now open in Maple Ridge offering decor and floral design. I had the opportunity to go and check it out and I was very impressed. I love the idea that couples can go in and walk around her studio and touch and feel the products she has to offer. By doing so, it will give you a better sense of how your ceremony and reception will look, which in turn, will give you some peace of mind on the actual day.

Kim and her team will work with you to help you define your ideas and unique wedding style. She also offers you the choice of using her team to set up and tear down, or renting the products and doing it yourself. This is a great option especially if you have a budget to consider.

Rentals Include:
-Linens and chair covers in an array of colors and fabrics
-Lighting and unique glasswear such as tall vases and candle holders
-Pillars, urns and wrought iron pieces

The list goes on. Have a look at her website and go and check it out!
